- Summary: One day, as you are traveling your kingdom and exploring the newly conquered lands, your generals and soldiers report that they have slain two dragons in the nearby mountains; You decided to explore the mountains and see the sight of the slain dragon yourself. Little did you know that you would come upon a lonely egg sitting atop the dragon’s hoard, resting easily in a smaller hoard of wool.
Roles:
-Major:
- The Royal: The speaker and also the individual who finds the lonely egg sitting atop its parents’ hoard.
-Scene: Inside of the dragon’s cave
[The slightly muffled sound of someone climbing a pile of gold can be heard.]
(In a slightly muffled tone, the kind heard through clothes) What do we have here?
(Uncovering the egg, and removing the wool clothes, now the tone is clear and no longer muffled) Aren’t you a lonely little thing. Sitting alone at the top of this dragon’s hoard. And your parents are not here to help you, it seems they’ve gone off into the sunset—who knows if they’ll ever be back. You poor thing, you’d probably die from some nest scavenger if we left you here alone.
(Cradling the egg) You don’t have to worry one bit now though, you’re very lucky I found you when I did, who knows what would’ve happened if I hadn’t come out here. (Spoken in a cooing tone) My little dragon, don’t worry I’ll watch over you, make sure you’re well taken care of, and with a little luck and a lot of hard work you’ll be a wonderful dragon; No, you’ll be the greatest dragon to ever grace my lands.
(No longer cooing) But first, let’s get you out of this cave, no dragon of mine will spend their life cramped in this poor excuse for a lair.
[The sound of someone climbing down a pile of gold can be heard.]
(Spoken in an icy tone) You know what to do.
[The sound of gold being moved, and hard labor soon fills the cave]
(Spoken in a more upbeat tone) While they’re busy with that, I have a dragon to take home, yes I do! Yes I do!
[The sound of steps can be heard, along with the silent humming of a lullaby. The sound begins to fade into nothing]
-Scene: Inside of a carriage
[The sound of a carriage rolling over a cobblestone road while there are people cheering can be heard]
(To the people) Thank you all for your support, I really do appreciate it, in these times of ours we are stronger together than we are apart, our enemies will learn that we will always triumph in the end.
(To the egg) Look at all these people my little dragon, soon you will be out here, and you will get to see my beautiful lands, and all of my subjects. And I know that with you there, I will prosper and my lands will become the greatest in the known world.
There is so much I want to show, but I can’t yet, don’t worry though, soon you’ll hatch and I’ll welcome you into this world of mine. So until then, (In a cooing voice) take your time my precious little dragon, you’ll come out when you’re ready, and when you do, I know you’ll be a most magnificent creature, one worthy of being called my dragon.
[The sound of the carriage rolling over cobblestone begins to slowly fade into nothingness as a humming lullaby replaces it for a brief second before nothingness finally arrives.]
